Food Street Crawling at SM Southmall

As a first time visitor to SM Southmall, I really did not know what to expect. Known to many of us that SM Malls are pretty much a public hub from grocery, clothes, entertainment and especially FOOD. The newly renovated SM Southmall boast its very unique approach in finding casual restaurants within the mall, they call it “Food Street”.
The Food Street is located at the back of SM Southmall and it includes a collection of different eating place in one lane. Pretty much like walking into a street of restaurants. What is nice about this concept, is that you do not need to explore the whole mall to see the casual dining spots. They are located in one place for easy access.

I was able to try out 5 restaurants in the Food Street that can satisfy your hungry tummy. We tried some dishes and here’s my foodie notes:

MESA FILIPINO MODERNE
Tinapa Roll Wrapped in Lettuce, a combination of salted eggs, smoked fish, tomatoes and onions. The dish is pretty much like a vegetable spring roll but I never noticed any oil inside. I love the crispy lumpia wrapper and the lettuce wrap combined with the taste of the salted eggs and fish inside. This is definitely a must try in Mesa. Masarap without reservations.
Chicken Binakol, chicken cooked in young coconut juice and meat with green papaya. An Ilonggo dish that has a resemblance with Tinola. This one though is more sweeter than salty, maybe because of the coconut juice. Remember to sip the soup while it is still hot. Masarap without reservations.

YABU
Hire Katsu Set, this is one of Yabu's best seller. Their Katsu Set with unlimited Japanese rice, miso soup, Japanese pickles, organic cabbage and fruit slices. I liked their katsu because it is tender and it is thickly cut. I also like this cut without pork fat. This is definitely the front runner of Yabu. My foodie note? Definitely masarap without any reservation.
Salmon Don, a slice of Salmon Steal on top of  Teriyaki flavored sticky rice. This is not included in the original Yabu menu and this was launched on 2015. This tender and flavorful Salmon is oozing with flavor and it also come with unlimited organic cabbage, miso soup, pickles and slices of fruits. Just be careful because the stone bowl is hot to keep your food warm. Definitely a Must Try, definitely masarap without reservations.
Gyu Don, a delicate mix of beef stir fried with onions and on top of their flavorful sticky rice. Served with egg on top, this dish became more exciting when we pour on the special sauce giving it a little sweetness. This dish is masarap without any reservations.

CAFE MARY GRACE
Pasta Amatriciana, a tomato based pasta topped with juicy meatballs. This is an easy pick if you wanted a classic dish. The pasta is al dente and the sauce is just right. Masarap for lunch or merienda without any reservations.
Pan-Seared Prawn Sandwich, slices of pan-seared prawns with lettuce and bell peppers between two slices of batard bread. My first time to eat a sandwich with prawns in it and it turned out so good. Lightly flavored  sandwich that is best if you're looking for a light dish. Masarap without reservations.
Mushroom Garlic Pizza, bechamel sauced pizza with truffle oil, mushrooms, garlic and arugula. The force of the truffle oil is strong on this one. I like this thin cut pizza is a perfect combination of the creamy sauce and the essence of truffle oil and mushrooms. Masarap with a bit of reservation especially if you do not like truffle.
Blackberry Fruit Shake, frozen blackberry milk shake that is perfect to cool you down and refresh you. Perfect with a very tasty meal.

TENYA TEMPURA TENDON
Spicy Salmon Salad, fresh garden salad topped with salmon fillet, spicy Japanese mayo and Tekasu dressing. One of my favorite dish for today. The tasty salmon is really good together with the fresh salad greens. Definitely a must try if you're trying out Tenya. Masarap without reservations.
Soba / Udon Set, high quality soba and udon set of prawns, squid, salmon, kani, green beans, mushrooms, sweet potatos, kisu, eggplants and tiger prawns. Set meals include their All Star Tempura (prawn, squid, salmon, kani, green beans and mushroom), Asakusa Special Tempura (3 prawns and green beans), Classic Tempura (prawn, squid, kisu, green beans, sweet potato), Marutoku Tendon (black tiger prawn, squid, sweet potato, eggplant with Japanese Potato Salad). I really liked their fried dishes because they were not too oily and the squid are actually tender. A single serving of this can fill you up.
Ningyo Yaki, a famous cake snack from Asukasa Tokyo with flavors like Dulce De Leche and Nutella. My personal favorite is their Dulce De Leche which is creamy and sweet. A cute dessrt for kids and kids at heart. Masarap with a bit of reservation with a little more creamy cake or maybe with other extra flavors.
Ningyo Yaki Sundae, Ice Cream topped with salted caramel popcorn and their nutella Ningyo Yaki. So cute and so good. Masarap and cute.

PROJECT PIE
Richie Pizza, pepperoni, Italian sausage, crumbled meatballs, mozarella, garlic and signature red sauce. A choice for the meat lovers. Masarap!
Kenobi Pizza, pesto, artichoke, red onion, tomato, feta and mozzarella. Light non meat pizza that is very minimal on toppings. More feta cheese? Masarap with a bit of reservation.
Woody Pizza, grilled chicken, cilantro, gorgonzola, mozarella, sliced red onion and BBQ sauce. Grilled chicken glazed with barbecue sauce for a different kick from your regular pizza. Masarap with a bit of reservation since I am not that of a big fan of barbecue.
Hamlet Pizza, prosciutto, caramelized onions, mozarella and parmesan. The prosciutto is good that it makes the pizza stand out. Masarap without reservations.
Yin Yang Pizza, roasted brocolli, roasted corn kernels, prosciutto, parmesan, olive oil, mozarella and red onion. I just don't like the corn kernels on top. Masarap even without the brocolli and corn kernels.
The Fab Four Pizza, gorgonzola, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, fresh basil, garlic, olive oil and black pepper. This four cheese pizza is perfect for cheese lovers. Masarap without any reservations.
Banana Nutella Pizza, nutella and Bananas. A surprisingly good treat. A definite must try after finishing your pizza. Great for sharing or maybe just by yourself.

The whole experience from the Food Street of SM Southmall is very enjoyable. There's actually a lot more that you can find in the Food Street. Lots of choices for everyone. What's good is that it's just a straight walk. SM Southmall has been fully renovated to look more like their premiere malls such as Aura. If you haven't been here for a long time, it is probably about time you pay them a visit.
