Aloha from Johnny Kahuku's Hawaiian Shrimp House
Johnny Kahuku's Hawaiian Shrimp House is indeed a great find for tasty seafood dishes. Located at the Second Floor of The Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila, the restaurant gives that warm Hawaiian feels like in the movies. It's part of The Red Crab Group of restaurants which includes The Red Crab Alimango House, Clawdaddy's, Blackbeard's Seafood Island and Murray's New Orleans Bourbon Street Steaks and Oysters.
What we had:
Molokai Sweet Sizzling Corn (P285.00), well-cooked roasted Japanese corn with sweet mayo butter, Bonito Flakes and Togarashi Dust. A very good starter, masarap without reservations.
Tropical Tuna Salad (P295.00), a generous serving of fresh Seared Ahi Tuna, Mixed Greens, Watermelon, Edamame, Fruits in Season in Sesame Miso Dressing. A mouthwatering salad that look and taste good. The fresh and crispy greens together with the lightly flavored tuna is a match for me. Masarap without reservations.
Asian Crispy Squid (P290.00), Fried Baby Squids, Caramel Tamarind Glaze, Crunchy Dilis and Adobo Peanuts. I really love fried dilis and this one is even better with crispy baby squids. The caramel tamarind glaze balanced the salty flavor of the dilis and the squid. This will keep you munching until it’s empty. Masarap without reservations.
Classic Kahuku Shrimp Truck (P535.00 for 6 pcs. / P599.00 for 9 pcs.), Garlic Butter Shrimps, Hawaiian Rice, Macaroni Salad, Tuna Ahi Poke). I love the shrimps, one of the best that I’ve tasted. The macaroni salad is rich and creamy with delectably sweet and fruity taste. Served with their flavorful Hawaiian rice and the Tuna Ahi Poke is perfect to wrap it all up. The whole set is definitely masarap without reservations.
Combination BBQ Platter 2 (P989.00), Beef Short Ribs, Shrimp Kahuku, Mochiko Chicken, Hawaiian Rice and Macaroni Salad. Just like the Shrimp Truck without the Ahi Tuna Poke but this has the Beef Short Ribs and their Mochiko Chicken. Again, I still love their shrimps. The Mochiko Chicken is a surprise too, tender and juicy chicken that is tasty inside and out. I was a bit disappointed with the Beef Short Ribs because it was a bit tough to cut. Masarap with a bit of reservations with the beef but the Mochiko Chicken is a must try.
Pete's Triple Combination (P599.00), White Shrimps, Black Mussels, Grilled Pork Belly, Sweet Garlic Sambal Butter, Potatoes and Corn. This dish is delectably sweet with a spicy kick. I love the combination of mussels and shrimps as always and this one here is pretty good. The sauce is spicy but it really taste good. Masarap without reservations.
Kung Pao Shrimp Linguine (P395.00), Garlic Shrimps, Sweet and Spicy Kung Pao Sauce, Roasted Peanuts, Linguine Pasta and Fried Bao. The pasta dish is a bit spicy and tasted a bit like Charlie Chan pasta. The noodles was a bit overdone I guess, nevertheless, the dish was masarap with a bit of reservation.
Turon Turon (P265.00), Chocolate Banana Turon, Toasted Coconut, Sweetened Jackfruit and a scoop of Sorbetes Ice Cream. It tasted very Pinoy especially with the turon with Jackfruit. Masarap without reservations.
Kahuku Dirty Chocolate Brownie (P340.00), Macadamia Nut Brownie, Warm Caramel and Macaroon Ice Cream. I wonder why they call it dirty but the brownie is really good. I love to eat the brownie together with the ice crea. Masarap without reservations.
And of course we have some cool and refreshing Piña Coladas.
My personal rating to the restaurant:
