The Great American Burger Joint
Inside SM Hypermarket in Ugong, Pasig City is a hidden burger place that offers smashed burgers. Yes, if this is your first time hearing burgers being smashed, you're not alone. The Great American Burger Joint is inspired by the burgers from the US like Shake Shack and In N' Out. It was the idea of Burger Joint founders Angel and Mike to introduce the smashed burger here in the Philippines. The technique lets the juice out, bringing more flavor to your burger. The effect though is that your burger patty will come out a bit darker than the ordinary burgers you could find.
For starters, a must try here is their Loaded Nachos. Tortilla chips in chili corn carne, sour and cream, cheese and with their watermelon salsa. It's actually a first for me to have watermelon in my nachos which tasted really good. You should just note that since the watermelon has more water that tomatoes, the nachos tend to become more soggy faster. But since this is just masarap without any reservations, you'll end up finishing this in a short period of time.
If you're not into nachos, you could try their Monster Fries. Almost everybody loves fries with burgers right? But the monster fries is upgraded with 1/3 pound Angus Beef, caramelized onions, cheese and it comes with The Burger Joint's special Bacon Ketchup. You can actually eat this without the ketchup but the bacon ketchup is just so good. Masarap without reservations, even without the ketchup.
In just a couple of minutes, the burgers were being delivered to our table. Their All American Burger is made out of 1/4 pound Batangas Beef patty with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and their house sauce. If you like to try a very classic burger, then check this one. Masarap without reservations.
Their NYC Burger is made up of 1/3 pound Angus Beef patty with bacon, grilled onions, salted honey tomato, baby arugula, bleu cheese and horseradish mayo. The baby arugula gave balance to the burger. A good burger if you like something a bit different and masarap.
The Pipeline Burger has 1/4 pound Angus Beef patty with a slice of spam, pineapple, lettuce, grilled onions and some teriyaki sauce. The spam make the burger more meaty while the pineapple controls the saltiness of the spam and the flavor of the patty. A must try without reservations.
The WTF Burger ( I am not cursing okay), is a double threat with two 1/4 pound Angus Beef patties, double the fun with two layers of bacon and cheese too. It also has beer battered tomato slices, fresh fried potato chips and their special garlic herb aioli. I really don't know how to eat this WTF Burger (still not cursing) because it is really big. Definitely a must try.
Aside from burger, Burger Joint also offer rice dishes for those who love to eat their burger patties with rice. Their Angus Beef Steak is made with a 1/3 pound Angus Beef patty in their special mushroom sauce with some corn, carrots and peas, topped with grilled onions. A satisfying rice meal for everyone. Masarap without reservations.
For those who like pasta and bacon, their Double Bacon Pasta Carbonara is a must try. Bacon bits, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes in their special white sauce and served with garlic bread. I love that this is not too creamy and it's just the way I liked it. Masarap without reservations.
They also have Spaghetti Bolognese with Mini Angus Patties. Tomato sauce, mushrooms, black olives, capers and smashed mini patties. Served with a slice of garlic bread, this classic dish is really good without reservations.
Our last dish for the day is the Cali Street Dog that's perfect for a quick bite. This is a new dish from The Burger Joint so expect it to be awesome.
For dessert, we had their Oreo Malt Shake with crushed oreo, ice cream and malt. This drink is very creamy and thick and it's perfect to cool you down.
My personal rating for the restaurant:
The Great American Burger Joint is a must try especially if you're having your grocery in SM Hypermarket or if you're in the Tiendesitas area. It offers great meal with lots of great stuff that you can choose from.
