Balay Dako

A trip to Tagaytay City would not be complete without trying their local restaurants. One of the famous chain of restaurants here belongs to the Antonio's group. It's latest addition as of this writing is Balay Dako, along Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay City. The restaurant normally gets crowded during weekends so it's better to be early. Balay Dako means Big House in Negrense  and the place really looks like a house inside out.

We had our team dinner here and we ordered their set meal that's good for 10. It includes Kare Kare, Crispy Pata, Tapa Flakes, Chicken Inasal, Sinigang na Hipon, Inihaw na Pusit and Tortang Talong. I am a fan of Filipino cooking so I am very excited to try the dishes.

We had a serving of their Tapa Flakes. Thin and crispy tapa that I wanted to eat with rice. It comes with a vinegar dip because tapa and vinegar always miss each other. I just think the tapa flakes was too oily. Masarap with a bit of reservations.

Their Crispy Pata we had was crispy and tasty. The meat is tender and it tasted good with rice, of course.

The Sinigang na Hipon tasted great. It was not too sour nor too salty, it's balance for me. The shrimps and the vegetables are also perfectly cooked. Masarap without reservations.

Kare kare is one of my favorite Filipino dish. So whenever I get the chance to eat one, I get so excited. For Balay Dako's Kare Kare, I find the sauce a bit bland since I was looking for that creamy and savory taste. I'm also looking for that nutty taste in each Kare Kare. Good thing is that you can take the flavor a notch higher by putting some bagoong. Masarap with reservations.

The Chicken Inasal is really good. The chicken meat is tender, juicy and well seasoned. Masarap without reservations.

I had their Tortang Talong and Inihaw na Pusit last since they are my least favorite. The Tortang Talong looks good but I think it needed a dash of salt and pepper. Their Inihaw na Pusit, burnt and salty.

I ordered Ginumis for my drink which is like Sago't Gulaman. It's good but a bit pricy. Masarap without reservations.

My personal rating for the restaurant:

Food: 3.5
Service: 3.0
Place: 4.5
